I personally found it EXTREMELY important to speak of these 5 years as these young ladies and men were extremely important to me and just wanted to assure their LEGACY to be spotlighted. PLEASE NOTE EACH OF YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART AND WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN HERE AT MMI!

I know this may personally be unexpected to you all but you know (MAMA V) as each of you would so passionately call me would assure  you all would be represented and remembered.

As mentioned in 2010 Natasha Braxton would approach me in regards to considering a newcomer division to MMI.  Now with a bit of hesitation and many conversations about the consideration, I made a decision to give her the okay.  The competition would be set for January of each year so that it would be 6 months prior to MMI competition held in June. This would give each representative an opportunity to reign with one another for 6 months.

We would have the very first MMI NEWBY in January of 2010 at club 708 previously (LORETTA'S) in Atlanta Georgia.  Please note I'll be extremely cautious about certain areas as I don't mention things that I'm not 100% accurate. the categories for this division would change just a small bit because we did not want the newcomer representatives to have to be as detailed as the National division. Again the only thing I would request from Natasha would be the name as I did not want to use NEWCOMER as trying to give MMI once again its own signature and thought newcomer was a bit taboo so I would wanted to name it  (MMI NEWBY).   She agreed the name had a nice pop and this would be the SIGNATURE name for this division.

The categories would be:

PRESENTATION (IN BLACK OR WHITE)
RUNWAY
TALENT
CREATIVE FORMAL WEAR

The price package would also deflect from the NATIONAL division but I wanted to assure the representatives a "CUSTOM CROWN and PENDANT" so I would take on this responsibility.

The MMI NEWBY Crown: Black and Clear stones with MMI NEWBY/LOGO embedded with the matching custom pendant along with the year of the representative.  Although as mentioned not believing in a sash (WE DECIDED TO GIVE THE NEWBY REPRESENTATIVES A SASH AS WELL)

I will tell you personally I was EXTREMELY impressed with the newcomer Representatives whom entered the competition the very first year and years to come with how passionate they were with executing in the MMI way. Stevie Beats aka Kimora Nichelle Santi and Keondre D. Diamond would become the very first Representatives.   OUR National representative would be Amber Starr.

This competition would last 5 years (2010- 2015).  

We would have five Representatives of which would include:

Kimora and Keondre (2010)
Pandora and Nikobi (2011)
Infiniti and Jalon (2012)
Brianna and Ashlei(2013) (Fatima Foxx)RIP
Alexis and Khoas (2014)

The National Queens who would be representing during these years:

Amber Starr (2010)
Trinity K. Bonet(2011)
Dajuan Gee aka Millennium C Snow (2013)
Kimora Nichelle Santi (2014)

(She would become the first and only to win both divisions)

Note: We did not have MMI National in 2012 hence the reason why it would not be a representative for that year.

The Newby division would be owned and operate Natasha from 2010-13 and would be housed in ATLANTA, GEORGIA and Toya Washington aka Ebonee Sherry would take ownership from 2013 -15 of which she would move the competition to her hometown (NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA).

I always felt a personal attachment to the representatives and the division as a whole and would always feel compelled to step in from time to time to cater the division whenever possible.  Now in 2015 I had to personally make an executive decision to close the division indefinitely.   It was a very hard decision but I was not in a position to take on responsibilities to continue the division. 

​

Now we have many variables as to how and why this would happen but we all agreed it would for the best for MMI as a whole.  A public apology was given to our last Representatives  Alexis White and Joseph Khoas Sylvester in 2015 as they did not have an opportunity to complete their reign and we're owed monetary compensation. Thank you again to the both of you for being professionals.
